点评:I was on the fence about whether to drive an extra hour from White Sands to this site after visiting the National Park but am so glad that I did. Three Rivers was the site of Native American settlements. A short trail has excavated and recreated foundations of their houses. But the highlight is over 20,000 petroglyphs. Most of them are clustered over the course of a half mile path on a hill, a few are visible on the peaks of hills a further half mile away. I have seen petroglyphs before but it’s usually just a few at a site, often only visible at a distance. Here, you can get close to and even touch them (though I cringed whenever other visitors did this) and there are countless petroglyphs. If hand-carved images of unknown meaning aren’t your thing, this site wouldn’t be for you. But for people like me who are enthralled by this ancient artwork, Three Rivers is an extraordinary place and worth the effort to visit.
