点评:We thoroughly enjoyed our guided tour of Tantanoola Cave. The history of the cave is an amazing story and was told with great humour by our guide, Dan.
Originally discovered by two young brothers in 1930, whose family, realising the significance of the cave, went on to operate cave tours until the early 1970s. In approximately 1972, the cave became a dedicated Conservation Park.
Tantanoola Cave is one of only two unique dolomite caves in Australia (the other is located in Tasmania).
This cave is estimated to be at least one million years old. The stalagmites and stalactites are amazing and have a pink hue due to the colour of the dolomite. The ‘wedding cake’ column is spectacular!
Tours run every 30 minutes. Upon conclusion of the guide’s presentation, you are permitted to walk around the paths inside the cave chamber to take photographs. This cave tour is an amazing experience!
There is also a 500m loop cliff-top walk above the cave with a lookout - well worth the short climb. You’ll see the exterior of the cliff and the holes in the rocks that allow the surface water into the cave. There’s also a garden of succulents clinging to the rock surfaces.
