点评：We just returned from a Finger Lakes visit with 4 cases of wine, but none from Forge. This was the strangest visit we've experienced. It started with a search for the winery as they have no sign - not a little, hidden sign - nothing. The second pass down the road my wife noticed the name on their mailbox. How strange for a business to want to hide from the public. The parking lot was obvious, and then we were left to wonder which of the three buildings might be the Salon. Apparently some kind of aversion to signage.
We did eventually find a sign and the correct building. I asked the gentleman behind the counter if they had ever considered a sign and he enthusiastically replied, "NEVER!!!"
$20 for a tasting. The highest we've experienced in the 17 wineries we've visited so far in the region. The strange vibe continued with the absence of a bucket for wine left in the glass you don't wish to consume - only tasting so far without one. This is a self-pour tasting from sample bottles, so I was careful to pour small amounts at first.
I would not say the wines were bad, because they were not - but there was something about the minerality of the terrior that didn't agree enough with us to purchase a bottle. It didn't help that the wines were more expensive than most of their competitors, but not enough to make me leave it there if I enjoyed it more.
We won't be back, but I wouldn't tell anyone else to avoid the place - if you can find it. Clearly some people enjoy the terrior and you might be one of them. Personally, I'd recommend Lamoreau, Fox Run, Barnstormer, Lakewood and Anthony Road.
