点评:I took this tour off the heels of visiting the neighboring Monticello.
I thought the property and guides were great! The store attendant also gave great recommendations for the Highland hiking trails offered (entry stops after 3:30). The tour guide was knowledgeable and gave insight to the current day efforts to uncover the truth behind the mysteries of the original Monroe house and it's fire. Its very interesting to see the ground still showing it's recent disturbance near the original foundations.
For those wondering, there are only two original buildings that are still intact: an overseers housing, and another building that is now used as a groundskeeping supply shed and is private. The main house you see is an 1818 guest house, an addition, and a new house that was built after the fire that took Monroe's house. The artifacts within are genuine, and are really neat go see. The exhibits give great insight into what we know of the items, as well as their significance to Monroe.
Overall, I thought this was a neat experience, especially for half the price of Monticello. This is a smaller area, especially if you do not do the two optional hiking trails. The main house is the centerpiece for your tour, and does have quite a few rooms, all filled with displays and whatnot. Be sure to go down to the bottom outside to check out even more in the basement of the 1818 guesthouse!
