点评:The North Pennines covers a vast area and I specifically want to write about Weardale, which is an AONB in its' own right. We normally travel to Stanhope via Lanchester and Wolsingham. However, we take the scenic route back, travelling the B6278 from Stanhope to Edmundbyers and then on to Shotley Bridge. Stanhope to Edmundbyers is the spectacular bit. The scenery is truly stunning and is good enough to rival that of most places. It is a shame that some people, drive through there so fast, that they don't have time to see it, let alone enjoy it. Wherever there are cattle grids, it means that there may be livestock on the road and therefore caution needs to be taken. We counted 8 dead sheep and lambs on our last journey and whilst there may be the odd unavoidable collision, most of these probably could have been avoided, if greater care was taken. It is not the easiest of roads to drive, so it would suggest to me, that those people driving like a bat out of hell, know the road and probably live locally. It is a loss to the farmers. Life is too short to be in such a rush. Slow down and take in that magnificent scenery. Better still, stop at one of the many places and have a picnic. Be more considerate!
