点评:We were excited to go on our trip. We selected the best cabin (top deck, private balcony at the stern) on a brand-new boat. Imagine our disappointment when we receieved a message the night before our trip indicating that the “propeller was broken” and we would have to go on another boat. They offered to allow us to reschedule, but we were already in Labuan Bajo and had our nonrefundable plane tickets booked to return on the same day the trip ended. What could we do?
We began our trip on an older boat, which toured us around for the first day. At around 8pm, we were transferred to a second boat. The room was on the main deck, had no balcony, and was subject to the noise of folks on the second deck and walking back and forth through the corridor.
I wish we’d stayed on the first boat, as the food was good. The second boat served a steady stream of almost exclusively fried food, including french fries and chicken nuggets as part of breakfast.
I explicitly booked this company based on its positive reviews. I had read several other accounts of other providers doing exactly what was done to us, i.e. the boat suddenly having “problems” and people getting put on other boats. It’s pretty clear that this provider (and most others) do not actually own the boats but are a third party intermediary between the customers and boat owners. Sadly, we were the victims of the same bait and switch that I had explicitly tried to avoide.
It appeared that the only employee of the company on this trip was our guide, who was a clueless Zoomer who failed to provide even the most basic explanation and instructions and would go missing at key times (e.g., we sat around for 20 minutes in the baking heat at the end of our Komodo Island tour waiting for him to finally appear…with a shopping bag, seemingly having gone shopping while we waited for him).
The experience of the trip itself was awesome - just choose a different provider, preferably one that owns it own boats.
