点评:The Strid is the name given to a fast flowing section of the river Wharfe on the Bolton Abbey estate. This is where the river is reduced in width from about 20-30ft to about 3ft in width. This creates a minor waterfall but the force is tremendous. It is said anyone falling in here is not coming out. The depth below water under the fall is the height of two double deckers. Please be very careful as the wet rocks are slippy and I have never seen so much moss on the rocks before making the rocks even more slippery. Access can be a number of ways. There is a specific Strid car park and you then walk down to the Strid. It is a steep climb back up. You can park at Cavendish Pavilion, at the moment there is a charge of £15 whether you stop for an hour or all day. I beleive however they are changing this to a barrier system whereby you pay for the amount of time parked. From here it is a mile to the strid. You can park at Barden Tower where it is free layby parking if you can get a spot. Yoyu can also park at Bolton Abbey but that is a much longer walk, although a pretty walk along the river.
