点评:We attended a house tour of Fairfield House in Bath today and found it to be a truly enriching experience.
Outside, there is a former chapel where a Tabot was once in place; this area has now been transformed into a beautifully groomed and peaceful garden.
The house itself is grand in stature, yet once inside it has a gentle, welcoming warmth that feels entirely fitting for a building of such deep history and provenance.
During the tour we explored Haile Selassie’s private room, the Empress’s private room, the library, and an area where Haile Selassie would sit and read. There is also a thoughtfully created replica seating area where visitors can have photographs taken.
We saw a pianola that Haile Selassie himself used to play and heard fascinating details about the extraordinary number of countries he visited — from what I recall, 166. We were also shown a gift that Haile Selassie gave to a woman he met on a train, which has a truly remarkable story behind it.
One of the guides shared an important historical insight: Rastafarians were vilified in Jamaica until Haile Selassie’s visit in 1966, something I hadn’t known before and found deeply thought-provoking.
We finished the visit with a freshly made vegan lunch, which was delicious and a perfect way to end the experience.
It felt authentic, unhurried, and genuinely informative, and I would happily recommend it to anyone interested in history, culture, and a thoughtful visitor experience.
