Disappointing accommodation and atmosphere, lovely nature

点评：I’ll start with the good. The jungle was beautiful and we saw some nice wildlife including pig-tailed macaques, a monitor lizard and some snakes and critters.
Unfortunately we were very disappointed in the accomodation and vibe of Bombalai Hostel/ Tawau Hills. When we arrived we were stared at in an unfriendly way by 1stopborneo staff as if we weren’t meant to be there. We were not told anything about the hostel and assumed we could use the small dining area/kitchen in the hostel. We just used a plate and knife to cut some fruit and were told off saying we couldn’t even use that, it was just for staff apparently. Apparently paying $80 a night we were only allowed access to the water and toilets. We couldn’t even use a fridge. The toilets were so dirty and looked like they hadn’t ever been cleaned. We saw no one come round to clean anything in our 3 days there. The staff would stare at us whenever we came out of the room, it felt hostile and awkward. It is a hostel after all but it seems to be 90% staff? When we would go to the canteen to eat (the only place to get food since we weren’t allowed to cook our own) the interaction with the lady serving was always very uncomfortable it felt like she never wanted to serve us and that is was a pain to speak to us. The paths on the trails that you pay the basic entrance fee for are in pretty bad shape also. There are cut down trees over the path and very dodgy steps or walkways.
Overall pretty disappointed with our stay so we left early, the only highlight was being in beautiful nature.

总的来说，这次住宿体验非常令人失望，所以我们提前离开了，唯一的亮点就是置身于美丽的自然风光之中。
