Nice quick break
Hazelwood Castle的点评
点评：We had a nice time, though for us its a quick local break for a night.
The castle is a nice building, it'd be a good wedding venue I think (including with its woodland wedding setting, or the rooms inside).
In terms of staying there, there are limitations. Its a small property, it has a small restaurant (food is decent if its included in your rate, somewhat overpriced to pay the prices otherwise), a small bar with limited atmosphere, a spa which is nice but is again small (no pool, hot tubs or anything of that nature - its treatment rooms, the mud rasul, a steam room and a sauna room and that's about it).
There's some short trails in the woods on the property, but short is the operative word, and most of it overlaps with the Live for Today Activity Centre activities. To walk much further you are going on roads.
I wouldn't particularly use it for a base for the area, but I guess you could being right on the A64 if you are willing to drive everywhere (its possible to get the bus into York/Leeds, but you need to walk a mile on a grass verge by the A64 dual carriageway to do it and cross a bridge if you need to be on the other side of the dual carriageway).
But it served our purposes well, a quick night break with spa, dinner and breakfast for a rate which was attractive compared to other similar venues in the region. That said, the rooms weren't particularly impressive and nor were some of the corridors - not that there was anything wrong, just don't expect luxury.
For breakfast, you order the cooked English Breakfasts items you want, though they had no vegetarian alternative to sausage and bacon - they often do, so I was told, but there had been supply issues. There is also a small continental buffet with limited choices like cereal, croissants, yoghurt and juices.
Staff were nice. We probably will return for a quick break another time.
