点评:What a scrumptious morning...
Through Angra traffic jams, insane fog and wind in the center of the island, and on to Biscoitos for a Três vinhas + Três Terroires tour. Strolling through vineyards between road and water learning about the local/native varietals, unique growing conditions and challenges, and a bit of history. Just myself and the incredibly personable and knowledgeable young local guide. Met one of the owners serendipitiously, passing by in her vehicle - gave us a lift to the first vineyard, chatting archaeology (I work for an archaeology consultant) on the way. Wonderful, warm folks.
Short stroll back to the winery for a lesson on the winemaking process, followed by a unique (and so, so tasty) spread of local fare - pickled quail eggs, tiny olives, sweet bread, cheese, jams - and the wine tasting of course. Seated on antique chairs at an antique table with ties to the family. The added ambience of old French songs from a 1912 gramophone found in a house they purchased. Picked a few delicious things to take home.
Such an incredibly rich, warm experience. Will definitely be back. If you find yourself on Terceira and are interested in the boutique wines made here, or even just looking for a unique experience Materramenta is an absolute must.
