点评:This was our first visit since their very recent expansion that adds a whole new building to their older, more classical edifice. And it is a gem. AKG has a wonderful collection that encompasses a great range of European and American art – mostly paintings and a few sculptures. Very strong in mid-19th century through the 20th century. Good representation of Impressionists and post-Impressionists, plus many of the great American 20th century artists.
As of January 2025, there is an amazing exhibit of the work of Marisol – a singular artist who left the bulk of her estate to the museum. I certainly recognized her work but never really knew much about her. So glad we visited as I know truly appreciate her life story and really got to immerse myself in so much of her sometime amusing and often poignant and pointed creations.
This is no Metropolitan Museum of Art, so you won't be exhausted and/or intimidated by it all. Big enough to cover a lot of ground and presented well – but small enough that you can pretty much cover it all in 2-3 hours. The two buildings are connected by a winding walkway – perhaps not truly integrated – that make getting from one part to the other a bit of an adventure. But an enjoyable journey all the same.
