Much wasted potential at this museum
Long Island Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame的点评
点评：I wasn't expecting much at this museum, but I was disappointed by what was there. It is a small place, so they don't have a lot of room. However, they could do much better. And it's expensive. To see the museum with the Billy Joel exhibit was $38 per person.
Good - the Billy Joel exhibit was decent. The place was very clean. What was in the museum is nicely displayed.
Bad - Billy Joel, Twisted Sister, and the Ramones were basically the main thing. There were lots of photos in the hallways but no explanation why they were there. Even the Billy Joel exhibit was dull. Also, entertainment is more than rock music. Why not mention the movies and tv shows made on Long Island, famous comics, and famous actors? Why concentrate only on the 1960s to 1990s for music?
Suggestions - when you have some a small place, it is essential to have a good docent or tour guide to make it interesting - provide the history of music and entertainment on Long Island, inside stories of the famous Long Islanders, how music and entertainment are currently evolving on Long Island. I have been to many small museums but having someone speak with the audience is essential for a good experience. Another suggestion, instead of showing a concert of Billy Joel in a dark room, have a video about famous Long Islanders in music and entertainment. Another suggestion would to have more interactive elements throughout the museum, not just in the exhibit room. Put screens on the walls that people can watch and/or play with. In the lobby, put something more interesting than a vehicle.
Would we go back? Not in its current state. Would I recommend the museum. Not unless you wanted to see a music act that's playing there.
