Lovely small farm, however unfortunately not very welcoming for wheelchair users with severe disabilities.
River Bourne Community Farm的点评
点评:I work in a day centre for people with severe disabilities and we often like to have a day out at the farm. It's a lovely little farm with a few animals, relatively wheelchair friendly if it's not too muddy.
However, when we visited recently we were made to feel very unwelcome by the cafe staff and were asked to leave! We were a group of 3 individuals in wheelchairs and 3 carers.
At 11:30 we needed to stop for lunch, and managed to fit the 6 of us around one table outside the cafe. There were at least 4 or 5 empty tables, and only around 3 tables occupied by other visitors for the entire time we were there, however after us being there long enough to take out and prep the food for our individuals (all of whom have complex dietary requirements), and beginning to feed lunch, we were approached by a member of staff and told that our individuals (who are all severely disabled) couldn't eat there as their food wasn't bought from the cafe.
We explained that the 3 carers were intending to buy lunch from the cafe shortly and that the cafe wouldn't be able to cater to the dietary requirements of the individuals we were with. We have eaten lunch there before with no issue, but we were told we had to leave. Surely this is discrimination as disabled people aren't always able to eat the food provided by the cafe, and there was no alternative benches or seating available other than outside the cafe.
There was even a sign saying that no food could be eaten there unless purchased at the cafe, unless it was for a baby - apparently the same consideration isn't taken for people with disabilities who have very specific dietary requirements! I think it's safe to say we won't be returning, which is a massive shame as we would love to have more disability-friendly options locally.
