点评:A hotel concierge told us to look for MM 14 and then take our SUV down the road to where the trailhead starts. It is a very long walk if you do not. Most people parked up at the top of the street on the main road and walked the dirt road to get to the trailhead below (and there’s really not much parking down below and there are some very very large rocks and uneven terrain to take an SUV down there). We will probably not do this trail again because we really enjoyed the Maha’ulepu better and it was a little bit easier and had better views, but not of the canyon.
Hiking shoes are a must. My husband had not brought his and used his tennis shoes and slipped and dislocated a finger. There are lots of spots where you are going up and then you are going down and there is not much to hold onto. Definitely bring some water and sunscreen and a hat.
The end result is a waterfall that is not huge at all but a good spot to rest. We are in good shape but it is a long trail that is definitely not flat.
We did this on our first full day on the island. The main highway is in great shape and nicely paved to get there. The lodge is also near nearby off the highway which has bathrooms, water, and snacks.
After we did the hike, we stopped along the lookout points.
