点评:This was a late afternoon hike, on a day trip outside of downtown Honolulu. Parking for the hike is just off the Kalaniana’ole Highway, beyond Diamond Head, Hanauma Bay, and Koko Head.
Hike is of moderate difficulty, given the elevation change, but on a beautifully paved trail (we’re fit, in our early 60’s, and my wife has a rebuilt knee). Sturdy footwear recommended (good running shoes or hiking shoe/boots), though I did see other hikers wearing flip flops.
Once the first leg of the trail is completed (at the hairpin turn), the views are spectacular. One can see Moloka’i, Lanai, and Maui across the Kaiwi Channel at the turn, and then Kaiwi Channel off your right as you continue to climb. We saw humpbacks broaching the afternoon we were there. The views from the lighthouse/top of the trail are equally spectacular. We could watch hang gliders soaring above the sea cliffs to the west, and take in the vista further up the coast towards Waimanalo. A very enjoyable hike - vacation time well spent.
