点评:This 72-foot single span arched bridge crosss the River Doon. Brig o’ Doon is oft referred to as Auld Brig of Doon, and was constructed in late medieval era [early 1400s] purportedly by James Kennedy, who died in 1465. Brig is Scots for bridge. It is a Category A structure having “special architectural or historic interest.” It certainly had interest for me. Brig o’ Doon is mentioned in Robert Burns’ poem “Tam o' Shanter.” Burns well knew the bridge. He crossed it daily to work at the Doon estate.
When standing atop “Bridge Over River Doon,” the name niggled a few ancient brain cells. Returning to the States, I discovered that Brigadoon was a Broadway hit that rant for 581 performances, beginning in 1947—five years before my birth. In London, a 1949 version ran for 685 performances. It was adapted for film in 1966 starring Robert Goulet and Peter Falk.
