Despite being one of the oldest temples in Kerala—with legends attributing its founding to Parasurama—it remains refreshingly serene and uncrowded. Walking through its ancient stone corridors and beneath the four majestic gopurams, I felt transported into a world where myth and history beautifully intertwine.
The temple’s distinctive Kerala-style architecture, complete with intricate carvings and vibrant mural paintings, truly captivates the eye. Every detail, from the carefully sculpted sanctum to the artistic depictions of epic tales, speaks of centuries-old craftsmanship. One of the most fascinating aspects is the lore surrounding the Shiva Lingam, which is traditionally anointed with ghee—a practice that, as legend has it, creates a mound that miraculously never melts.
Adding to its mystique are the many legends associated with the temple, including stories of divine interventions and even a historical visit by Tipu Sultan, who, despite his notorious reputation, is said to have treated this sacred space with utmost reverence. All of these elements combine to create an atmosphere that is both awe-inspiring and deeply peaceful.
