Really active fun day out with heaps of learning added in if you want it

点评：We visited on a quiet mid week day in term time with 2 kids 11 and 13. We had a fab 5 hours there. The panning for gems + fools gold activity is simply lovely, and you find loads quite quick, we did it for over an hour and would go back and do it again. The huge machines in the quarry area are fascinating and great fun to walk around (would be cool to know a few of their stories on boards by them) but again staff told us a good few too. The museum is a deep dive into everything geological, fossils, mining, quarries, equipment, gold and gemstones....too much to take in one visit. They are just building a very cool new building for this, which will improve it further. Loved the train Ride too (it does have really squeeky wheels, but that made it just feel authentically industrial, and my noise sensitive kid was ok with it) Awesome staff who really cared, knew their stuff and went the extra mile to show deeper interest in my kids who had loads of questions. We even had a special look inside the door of the engine shed as it was so quiet. And they sold vegan and local dairy ice cream in the shop. The views are lovely, its reasonably priced, we will go back again for sure, maybe even this year. One of the best days out we have had in a long time. A new favourite place
