Perfect blend of history, lush greenery and breathtaking vistas

点评：Schlossberg (Castle Hill) is a wooded hill rising 473 metres at the centre of Graz. It has been a prominent feature of Graz's geography and history ever since a permanent settlement came about in Austria's second largest city. It is the site of the Schlossberg Fortress, with a key role of defending Graz from invaders during the medieval ages. Today, it is not only a popular viewpoint, but also a key historical site and a green lung of the city, serving as one of the city's public parks. The hill is accessible via various pathways, or if mobility is a concern, you can also ride on the Schlossberg Funicular or a glass lift. Once at the top, you'll be greeted with a perfect blend of history, breathtaking views, and serene greenery, including Graz's most recognisable landmark, ie. the Clock Tower (Uhrturm), remnants of old fortress walls, a deep well, beautifully manicured gardens and wooded paths, perfect for a relaxing stroll, a breath of fresh air, and to soak in the panoramic views of Graz Old Town, River Mur and its surroundings. I would recommend taking the funicular to go up the hill and then strolling down one of the many paths, whilst admiring not just the natural beauty that surrounds your walk, but appreciating the strategic importance of Schloosberg to Graz over the centuries. Undoubtedly, this is the best part of Graz during my day-trip from Vienna.
