点评:Very disappointing. Upon reaching the small parking lot, noticed that there were two large piles of dirt near the start of the walkway to the ruts and a pile of what looked like concrete debris. Upon closer inspection, the concrete debris was a knocked down pylon with a plaque commemorating the camp site for an 1825 survey team! See photo.
The end of the walkway was also in a sad state. 2/3 descriptive signs were illegible. park benches were vandalized and there was trash strewn on the walkway and the grounds.
The sign says managed (by the state of the ruts site- MISMANAGED) by the Boot Hill Museum. My family and I forked out $18 a person to view the museum. Maybe they could use some of that money to fix up the Santa Fe Ruts site!
It is great that the Santa Fe ruts here were preserved, but the current state of the site puts serious doubts in my mind that the Boot Hill Museum’s apparent mismanagement of this site can secure preservation of the historic site. It makes no sense to me why the county or state cannot take over management of the site.
