Disappointing Visit in Mid-May

点评：Very disappointing visit on Mother's Day. My spouse wanted to travel to the gardens and sketch some of the flowers. We joined the "Friends" online the previous day to avoid what we anticipated would be long lines. As we entered the pavilion we saw a long line and stood there for a few minutes. Only one associate was handling the large crowed. One of us went into the gift shop to check if there was an alternate entrance for members and confirmed we could go directly outside to the small kiosk where the line was much smaller. A simple sign informing patrons there was an alternative would be very smart. The associate at the kiosk was very pleasant. We entered the gardens to be greeted by a large plaza stripped of grass down to the dirt. Then we walked through--very disappointing. A relative small bed of tulips were in bloom...almost nothing else...the gardens did not appear to be cared for with grass clippings and weeds on the pathways. The small stream and waterfalls were not functioning with dirty, stagnant water sitting in pools and low spots. When looking at the "What's in Bloom" on the website we had expected to see flowering trees, forsythias, tree peonies, lilacs...we missed them if they were in bloom. Some children were fishing in one of the pools trying to scoop tadpoles--this was a highlight of our walk. Perhaps we will give the garden a try in the future...I had my camera but didn't take a single photo.
