点评:We went in the off-season--the funicular was not running--and hiked to the top of the mountain. I am not a hiker, and I managed to get up and down in about 3 hours with my teen children. We also spent about an hour wandering around on the summit of the mountain and seeing the views from every direction. So altogether we were on the mountain for about 4 hours. The vertical distance is close to 500 metres. The views are worth the effort -- the high peaks of the Pyrenees to the south, idyllic valleys to the east, the town of Lourdes spread out below to the west, views of the Gave. The start of the hike was challenging (mud, steep terrain). After about 30 minutes, the hiking got much easier and the rest of the climb was not difficult. Bring a walking stick. If you're into it, there is a botanical walk at the peak which gives examples of alpine flora. There are a lot of mountain bike paths crossing the hiking trail, so I'm not sure what it might be like hiking in the summer with lots of bikes flying about -- I expect you will need to keep your wits about you so you don't get bowled over by a bike. Or, just take the funicular -- it takes you almost the entire way up the mountain and there is just a short walk to the summit.
