点评：This is one of the famous temple in Andhra Pradesh and located on a hill besides the Prakasam Barrage and Krishna river in Vijayawada. The temple is easily accessible from the Railway Station and Bus Complex.
Once you reach the hillock, you will find temple buses ferrying people from the base to the top of the hill. These days, private vehicles are not allowed on to the hilltop. There is a parking bay at the base. The entry fee is Rs.50/- There is a large parking bay but no one to guide you. As a result of haphazard parking, several cars are parked on the path leading to the parking area. The road too is not properly laid and stones hinder your progress.
You will find a gate on the right which is handled by a security person. They will ask you to go to the left to a ticket queue line. From here you can either climb the steps to the hill top abode or buy tickets of Rs.100, 300 or 500 for quick darshan. Actually all the three queues take similar time to reach the temple entrance, the difference being how proximate you can be with the Goddess. With the 500 ticket, you can go quite close into the inner chamber. The general devotees and Rs.100 ticket holders merge and view the goddess from a distance of 30 feet with the 300 ticket about 15 feet away.
The ticket holders get the right to use one of the 6 massive lifts which ferry people upto the 7th level. Once you reach the top, you will have to walk out of the lift to the opposite side where you will find the queue line entrance. Newcomers will find it a little confusing. You need to check your line as per the ticket purchased.
After the darshan, you can visit some more temples. Poojaris ask you to mention the Gotra nama and collect some fee after a small pooja. Coconuts are not allowed to be broken by you. You need to pay a couple of guys who will break the coconuts and still keep both the halves. I suggest not to take any coconuts.
There are plenty of outlets for drinking water and am sure there are washrooms also but failed to locate any. The route down is again by lift. Once you come out of the lift you will find the prasadam counters. I visited the temple around 8 am and found that only laddoo was available.
Phones are not allowed and it is better to leave your footwear and phones in the car (if you travel by car). It is better to avoid the rush on Fridays and Sundays. The rush gets low after the noon break. The hilltop commands a beautiful view of the Krishna River but no longer accessible with the queue complex.
