点评:This organization is doing an exceptional job rehabilitating monkeys that were previously smuggled, injured or taken as pets. The staff truly care and have bonded with these monkeys.
Most monkeys roam the grounds freely although there are a few that are caged due to their aggressive behavior towards humans.
Now the reason I didn’t give a full 5 stars is what some social media influencers and other YouTuber posters stated. I was under the impression that we would get to interact with the monkeys. Most of the videos out there show people holding the monkeys. This is absolutely not allowed however monkeys may jump onto you. Once a monkey does jump on you, the guide will remove it immediately.
I felt this misleading information shown out there sent my group there rushing our current travel plans. The “Island” is quite out of the way. They really don’t assist you in making your way there although their website says to contact them and they will help arrange transport. We tried numerous times and ended up having to hire a boat. Between the time needed to get there, getting a boat out of Belen and the hot hike to the office dampened everyone’s spirits. Seeing the monkeys was incredible. They looked really happy and that was enough to make me enjoy this visit. I really wanted to hold one but I’m just happy they are safe now!
Pro tip: just know this is a rehabilitation operation. Not a petting park. It is fairly small so you will travel by boat for about an hour, have to walk into the jungle for another 30 minutes and then walk around their grounds for another 1/2 hour. It is not expensive to visit and the entrance fee goes to helping these poor monkeys. You have to decide if time is of the essence. For me, it was all about the adventure. Just know, your visit will help the monkeys.
