点评:The gardens are well worth a visit and the house (from a distance) is a wonderful example of the Arts and Crafts period.
However, if you are not well versed in French you are at a disadvantage.
After the guide established that the majority of our group (20) were French, those of us, some Dutch and Germans who spoke or understood only a little French, were directed to their website which gave a very brief description of the house and gardens in English.
When we asked the “guide” for more details of the house we were told to “look it up on the internet”
As the British Architect Edwin Lutyens and the British Garden Designer Gertrude Jekyll were largely responsible for this wonderful house and garden, we had many questions which we could not address - although their names were referenced many times.
A Dutch couple and a German couple plus ourselves were able briefly to learn more from a young guide who spoke good English.
We were told that they are working towards improvements in this regard and hope to offer a better experience for international visitors in the future.
