点评：Alopi Shankari Devi shakti peeth temple is located near Alopi Bagh of Prayagraj, which is also famous as Madhaveshwari temple. Alopi Shankari Devi temple is one of the Ashtadasha Shakti Peeth which is must visit place of Prayagraj. Devotees tie Raksha Sutra on their hands while making a wish here, about which it is said that as long as the Raksha Sutra is tied, Matha will continue to protect them.
History of Alopi Devi temple:
The Finger of Goddess sati fell to the ground after the Sudarshan chakra of lord Vishnu cut it. The Goddess Sati's finger fell here and immediately vanished into a pit and hence there is no idol of the mother has been kept only you can see a cradle hanging on the spot that is worshipped as the representation of Alopi Devi..
According to belief, Alopi Mata is the bride who disappeared from the wooden cot when the marriage procession was attracted by a group of robbers. the strange disappearance of the bride was marked as a miracle and temple was built at the same place to worship the divine bride.
It is believed that there is a small well inside a raised platform beneath the cradle spot. A Sri Yantra has been installed in the well and is worshipped regularly. The well remains filled with water always.
Temple Architecture:
Earlier there was a small local temple here in which a swing used to hang.
It is said the when Shrinath Mahadji Shinde, of the Marathe rule stayed in Prayagraj for a short time in 1772 AD, this temple was built on the request of Queen Baijabai Scindia.
Later its management was taken over by Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani.
