点评:This property is owned and maintained by the National Trust but still lived in by the Dashwood family, who seem to have got rather a good deal out of it. The house is open for guided tours a few afternoons in the week, when not closed for the family to run shooting parties or hire out for filming. We gathered at opening time 2pm and joined the first tour. It was rather dry, a lot of dates and who had painted which ceiling, not a lot about the Hell Fire Club. No photos allowed "because this is a private family home". If I was getting a national charity to pay for the up keep of my home, I think I'd let the people paying to visit take a few photos. There are plenty online in promotional material advertising shooting parties and weddings. Visitor facilities are almost non existent. Some dank toilets under the house via some steep, slippery steps. No cafe and no shop on site. There is a cafe outside, across the road, owned I believe by the Dashwood family. So at least they get to have their cake and eat it.
