Amazing golf architecture, budget conditions
Foxfire Golf & Country Club的点评
点评:My son and I went to experience budget golf in the Pinehurst area after a week of amazing and expensive courses. As we pulled up we were immediately excited about the look of this course from the holes we saw from the road. I had called earlier in the day and the shop pro told me the Grey course was in better condition. Unfortunately by time we showed up they were spraying the greens and were told we had to play the Red Course. On a hot 90 degree day the shop and bar were also out of water bottles. I was offered a glass of tap water in a fancy plastic cup, no ice, but whatever, we came to play golf. The 1st tee box was impressive. We are both single digit handicappers and enjoyed the bunkering and wide fairways. The course offers some AMAZING scenic views and holes and I could immediately tell the layout of this course was special. Unfortunately I couldn't say the same for the conditions. Nice fairways, bunkers hadn't been raked or sanded in months it seemed, and the bermuda greens although somewhat fast were like putting on a plinko board. Insanely bumpy. I told my son I loke the layout so much i wouldplay there all the time if the greens were good! Credit to the shop pro, he told us they weren't great and the Grey Course greens were better. Overall you can't tell this course was special at one time. The architecture is amazing. Feels exactly what Sandhills area golf should be, but they probably just don't have th budget to keep it up, a real shame because it's so beautiful!! No cart girl, closed down halfway house with a broken vending machine, and luke warm water tubs. I will say from the Blue tees this course is a monster at 6800+ yards. We moved up to the White tees after 5 holes and had much more fun. As we finished we drove by the 18th green of the Grey course and putted on it. Greens were furry but
WAY better. Not sure why there was such a discrepancy. It seems like overall Foxfire would be in a much better position keeping 1 course and spending all of its resources making the best course really nice and charging more. I paid $40, but would have easily paid $100 if this place was in better condition. Needless to say this place has SO much promise. Its worth it to play just to appreciate the golf course architecture and to take a break from to $100+ round. Will probably consider bringing the family back on a relaxing day and play the Grey Course. My son and I played in 3 hours and didn't see a single person which was nice. Ice water would have garnered a 3.5 rating...
