A pleasant surprise

点评：This was my first trip to Dorney Park and I was pleasantly surprised. The price was reasonable compared to other amusement parks. On arrival, the parking area was a bit rough. There was no tram to take you to the park entrance but even from the back of the park, the walk was not far. At the back of the parking lot, there are picnic tables should you wish to exit the park, picnic and then re-enter the park. The line to get into the park in the morning was minimal and entry was fairly quick. The park did not provide paper maps however there are signs with maps on them and also a QR code to their app.
Overall, we really enjoyed our day at Dorney Park. The lines for most of the rides move fairly quick and were not too long. The two rides that we found had long lines that prevented us from riding them were the river Rapids, thunder Canyon, and the small cars on tracks. We spent the majority of our time riding the roller coasters. Our favorite coaster was steel force. Hydra and Talon tie for second place. Thunderhawk is the classic wooden coaster and we found it very rough. iron menace is the new coaster for 2024. We rode in the back row and found the ride to be incredibly rough. Neither of us enjoyed the ride. We also rode Woodstock express in Camp Snoopy… The kiddie coaster. We also found it to be rough. We did not ride possessed or the wild mouse as they did not really appeal to us. Not technically a coaster, but has tracks, I tried the demon drop. It was an interesting ride, but the backwards launch from the end of the track was also rough.
The park has a bunch of classic rides in addition to the coasters. We enjoyed the music express, the standard log flume, the whip, the tilt-a-whirl and the carousel. We also rode the two small trains in the park. Both trains are very small and very slow. I wish they had a larger train ride that went around the entire park and was faster.
Although we do not have little kids, we did venture through Camp Snoopy. I was really impressed with this section of the park. It was colorful and very well done in terms of theme. if you are a peanuts fan it is worth a walk-through. They even have a nice little gift shop there that is peanuts/snoopy themed. I thought they had a nice selection of rides for a little kids, more than most. I would say I believe they had a show with the characters three times that day, but we did not end up catching one of them.
Food in the park was kind of pricey. Most meals whether it be pizza chicken tenders or burgers ran around $17. however I will say that we really did enjoy our double cheeseburgers, chicken tenders fries and mac & cheese that we got at the diner. for the price we paid, we got a decent serving size and really good food for an amusement park.
We tried to go back and ride the log flume around 6 PM and found that the ride was closed. We also found a few other rides closed around this time. I felt that perhaps they did not have enough staff in the evening to keep all of the rides open. This was kind of disappointing. They did keep the large boat ride & the river rapids open for anyone who wanted to get wet however, the smaller log flume was closed.
Also around this time of 6 PM., We noticed the lines for rides started to get longer. This is probably because the waterpark closed at 6 PM and those visitors ventured out to the rides.
Overall, I felt Dorney Park was a very nice theme park. It was clean and attractive. I liked that they had flowers and landscaping throughout the park instead of it just being a concrete slab. There was a nice selection of rides ranging from mild to high thrill. I liked how the rides were mixed throughout the park… Meaning that a tilt of whirl may be next to a large roller coaster. So you could ride the scrambler and then hop in line for the wooden coaster, I liked how this was integrated. This enabled me to ride classic carnival rides rides with my kids, giving me a break between the larger coasters, without having to zigzag the park. I also liked that the park had mini rides that they have maintained despite them being older rides. For example, the carousel was built in 1921 and the thunder hawk turned 100 years this year 2024.
I would recommend this park and will most likely return myself.
