点评：Most of the boat companies are well reviewed. This review is specific to an early July visit to the National Trust Farne Islands "nature reserve".
We have been to the Farne Islands several times but only twice during peak bird nesting & breeding season. The National Trust used to permit boat parties to land on both Staple Island and Inner Farne bird reserves for about an hour or so on each island. This has now ceased and the National Trust appears to be squeezing all visitors on to Inner Farne, with trips limited to one-hour landing. With the number of boat trip parties arriving the island has become uncomfortably crowded. The birds are being disturbed by the enormous visitor pressure and many visitors have no idea how to behave on a nature reserve, running around with phone cameras trying to get close-up shots and thus getting to close to the birds which become distressed. The Arctic Terms which nest near the paths are particularly vulnerable to this stupidity and more wardens are needed to monitor and control the visitors.
For serious photographers who have the right equipment the trip becomes frustrating as it is almost impossible to stop and take a decent photograph before somebody pushes past on the narrow paths. Unfortunately it seems that the only thing that matters to the NT is revenue; the islands have become a zoo and the birds just a "paid-for" spectacle. I seriously doubt if I will go back.
