点评:I have visited nearby Fallingwater on multiple occasions, but had never taken the time to stop at Kentuck Knob. I am glad to have finally corrected that oversight. Sara was an exceptional tour guide who provided extensive information about the history of the house, including the relationship between Frank Lloyd Wright, the Kaufmanns (the original owners of Fallingwater), and the Hagans (the original owners of the house at Kentuck Knob), and the subsequent purchase of the property by Lord and Lady Palumbo (the current owners of Kentuck Knob). Especially entertaining was the back and forth between the Hagans (who were onsite) and Frank Lloyd Wright (who designed the house almost entirely remotely) during construction in the 1950s. It was fascinating to see whether the owners or the famous architect won out when there were disagreements regarding plans for the house. Special thanks to the Palumbo family for opening the house to the public.
Notes:
Reserve your tour in advance (tours sell out). The 90-minute in-depth tour provides access to more areas of the house, including the basement (highly recommended). After the tour, take in the view of the Yough River Gorge from the outlook, and consider taking the woodland walk from the house back to the visitor center. The trail shows off the natural beauty of the location and includes several works of art (some of which are supremely unusual).
