A stunningly beautiful house can’t make up for a complete lack of service!

点评：When in Ay… visiting Bollinger to purchase champagne from their boutique seemed like a good idea. It was not. We checked the opening times online and arrived an hour after it opened. Walking into the courtyard a woman came running out from the building to the right, yelling at us for walking into the courtyard. We needed to come with her. Politely we did as instructed. Inside, we were asked something in French and we apologised for not speaking any French. We asked to visit the shop, as we wanted to buy champagne and that we thought it would be open. In ten minutes, she replied. No smile, no explanation offered.
After 10-15 minutes spent on a bench, we were taken to the other side of the courtyard, the female staff member now appearing more like a prison guard. We were let into a dark room with a large table and a few bottles on display. Another female staff member appeared, with her smile upside down, but left again when we disclosed we didn’t speak any French.
We had a look at the 10 bottles on display, alongside a few Bollinger souvenirs (bottle opener, keychain etc), before quietly and sadly very disappointed leaving the property.
It’s certainly is a beautiful house, which makes an impressive first impression. But with no warm welcome, no staff who seemed to enjoy their job and certainly no shop to taste or buy their champagne, our excitement evaporated.
Bollinger has always been a favourite and go to brand. After this experience? Not any more!
