Avoid – Don't Be Fooled by the Avis Name

点评：We chose Avis at Malta Airport because we trusted the brand and were willing to pay more compared to several cheaper rental options. Unfortunately, our experience showed that a well-known name is no guarantee of fair treatment.
We rented a white Ford Fiesta that already had scratches all over the vehicle when we collected it. An older male manager with excellent British English spent an unusually long time inspecting the car and taking photographs. He repeatedly assured us that everything was being documented properly, which gave us confidence that the vehicle's condition had been accurately recorded.
When we returned the car, we were suddenly told there was a small damage mark on one corner and were charged around €800. Conveniently, the collection photos were missing the exact area where they later claimed the damage had occurred.
After checking the paperwork, we found a written note from the vehicle handover stating that damage already existed in that location when we received the car. We submitted a complaint and provided this information, but have heard nothing meaningful in response.
Looking back, the lengthy inspection process gave us the impression that Avis was being extremely thorough and professional. Instead, we ended up facing a costly damage claim despite evidence that the damage was pre-existing.
We specifically chose Avis because we believed a reputable international brand would provide transparency and peace of mind. Sadly, this experience proved otherwise. Don't be fooled by the name alone—document every single part of the car yourself, no matter how trustworthy the process may seem. We would not rent from this location again.
