点评：Very often small coastal towns preserve small and large treasures that are just waiting to be discovered by tourists. Walking inside these towns can therefore be a pleasant surprise.
The historic center of Terracina is a true gem overlooking the sea.
The historic center is located on a much higher position than the sea coast.
Taking a walk through the old town you will come across the various attractions.
The first thing you notice in the area is a mix of buildings dating back to very different periods: starting from the Roman era up to the Renaissance.
All around there are shops selling typical products and art workshops.
As soon as you enter the ancient area, you find the Church of Purgatory in front of you.
Continuing the path on foot you arrive at the heart of the historic center of Terracina with the Forum Aemilianun, the remains of the Capitolium, the temple dedicated to the triad of Juno, Jupiter and Minerva, and passing under the arches of the Frangipane Castle. After various buildings, made of travertine and dating back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period, you arrive at the main square with the Cathedral of St. Caesarius.
The staircase preceding the entrance shows that the Cathedral rests on the remains of an ancient Roman temple and has undergone several restorations over time.
It is worth visiting for the eighteenth-century frescoes and the splendid Cosmatesque floor of medieval origin.
