点评：This was a great family day out - the train travels at just above walking speed so you get plenty of time to see the countryside.
things to know
[1] book the tickets online before you go - in July the place was heaving with tourists and they were adding extra trains to try to fit everyone in. Make sure to bring your booking number as you have to line up at the ticket office and collect your actual ticket for the ride.
[2] get there early for the car parking spaces and to have time to look over the old steam engines -- there is a nice cafe with clean bathrooms if it is cold/wet and you need to shelter - also, as soon as the train arrives, get your seats as the places are first-come first served.
[3] remember that steam trains send out smuts - it can be fun to travel in an open carriage - but beware the smoke! Askthe guard/conductor for a closed carriage (they have some old ones secondhand from Swiss and Austrain Railways) if you prefer, and consider a hat and sunglasses as protection.
[4] the track is very uneven - photography and video fromthe train suffers from the shaking and jolting!
[5] sit, if you can, on the left hand side of the carriages - seen as if facing the engine. Mostly the river and thigs to see are on that side.
[6] some of the seats are very hard - pack a jumper if only to use as a cushion!
[7] there are regular stops to take on water for the steam engine - at some of the stations there will be enough time to have a bathroom break or buy a coffee - and at the top of the line, you typically get an hour to look around and have some food from the stalls there.
