点评:This was honestly one of my favourite spots we visited in Malta. It's tucked away behind the hospital (more signage would have been helpful...) and wasn't too busy. We arrived to join the 10:30am tour, which shed light on the fascinating history of the site (which is greatly reduced from it's former glory due to surrounding urban development). The terraced garden hides many surprises, from historic buildings, amusing sculptures, delightful water features, and a diverse array of plants to matching a growing range of garden styles.
On the day that we visited, a harpist was also playing music by the old villa & fountain, which really added to the ambience. Michelle was super talented, and managed to play many songs on request purely by ear!
Afterwards we had tea & coffee on the balcony with some local bakery treats to soak up the sun, and try and spot the little bit of the sea view peeking between buildings!
What impressed me most was that all of this has been established, restored and lovingly cared for entirely by volunteers, who have done a marvellous job of re-creating and opening up a green space for the public to treasure.
I would love to visit again in future to see how to restorations have further improved the garden (and can understand why earlier reviews that may have seen the gardens in earlier stages may have been less impressed).
