点评:The actual experience is 5 star. Lat is a cartoonist who draws charming and most amusing cartoons of Malay village life of a simpler era and sharply observed but not unkind political cartoons. The curated works show a representative range of his work. The biographical detail is sufficient to be interesting but not egotistical. The recreated kampung or Malay village house of wood is charming and seems accurate. There could be more notes for some of the items in the house such as the special water containers that kept water cool when there were no fridges. Our 30 year old companion had never seen such a household utensil but us 60 year olds just about remembered it.
The only lalat or fly in my visit to Galerie Rumah Lat was the shop being closed so couldn’t get a t shirt. Was told the assistant put for lunch and would be back at 1.15pm but wasn’t back by 1.40pm and the receptionist said he was unable to make the sale. It would also be really nice if the books could be reprinted for sale for newer generations of readers, and it may be an idea to have limited edition of some of the cartoons.
