Excellent boneyard of cargo and tanker aircraft on the edge of a working Air Force base.

点评:A very good “boneyard” of retired military planes - mostly cargo and tankers. There are a couple of WWII vintage planes in an indoor hanger. But the majority are out on the tarmac.
With the help of a very able tour guide, John, we saw the 25-or so outdoor. planes. A few could be boarded for a closer look:
- a YC-9C that ferried government bigwigs, including stints as Air Force 2.
- a workhouse C-130, complete with JATO attachment fittings.
- a pair of C-141’s - an A and a B.
- a collection of “transition” cargo haulers as the breed took shape after WWII.
- two big tankers - KC-135 and KC-10.
- and the gem: an immaculate C-5. Sticking my head into its wheel well was an eye-opener. And the inside really was big enough to held a couple of tanks.
The only caution I can offer is that on a sunny day, the tarmac offers very little shade.
Well worth a couple of hours - longer if you’re an aviation fanatic.
