点评：Incredibly let down by this experience. The website over reached with many of its features.
1. Arrival/Check in was a bit difficult as it was done online, yet the wifi wasn't properly connecting as well there was difficulty in finding the office. Finally a teen lounging in a golf cart was able to check in after I asked for help as I didn't quite know what to do next. I originally thought they were a guest as they appeared to be playing on their phone and relaxing.
*Suggestions- When you arrive you see a residence with private property signs and a roped-off driveway. Since visitors must walk past this roped off section, place clear
signage to go towards office. Please have an employee working at office, instead of asking visitors to call a number if they require assistance. Employees should wear some sort of shirt or name tag. Invest in more reliable wifi.
2. Campsites are subpar. Little, no privacy between sites, no grate over fire. Witnessed many people have difficulty backing up their camping RV etc onto sites due to small size. We brought a 6-person tent and had only one place to put it. Difficulty pegging it in as it was rock underneath, snapping and bending the aluminum pegs. Nosy neighbours watched us eat our dinner, commenting on our food; quite irritating. See pictures to understand how close the campsite(cabin) was beside us.
3. Trails and Amenities very oversold.
Following our camp set-up we decided to do a short trail. I am a nature buff so thought the Mother Nature trail might be interesting. It is NOT a trail. It is a loop in the road where they have provided some signs on plants. I have never walked along a road and been told it is trail. Oversold. We visited the Visitor's Centre and were treated toa plethora of very old taxidermy, some obviously deformed and weathered. It was an onslaught of taxidermied horror in which we just started to laugh at the absurdness. Also in this room there were freezers and posters and old couches. For a park called eco park, I would expect attention paid towards the unique ecology of Manitoulin Island, not a room filled with a menagerie of dusty dead animals and old furniture. Looked forward to seeing the goats, but there was an empty pen. Chickens included roosters- did not enjoy the morning wake-up call. *Positives We enjoyed scanning the QR code to get ice/firewood, unfortunately due to wifi instability sometimes the internet was unavailable. A nice amenity that we enjoyed was the use of the camp kitchen. We used the sinks to clean up as it was more convenient than to pull out our camp sink. Sadly one night someone thought it was appropriate to spend 45 minutes carefully washing each dish/silverware while there was a line-up for the kitchen sinks. It was actually laughable this person's speed.You can't force others to be considerate so not really a complaint, but future visitors should be aware that delays can happen here.
3. Toilets and Showers- the true reason we left. The washrooms when we came on Friday afternoon were alright. The outhouses were fine. By Friday night there was a piece of poo left on one of the outhouses toilets. When we cut short our stay on Sunday, this was still there. Although it is guest responsibility to be cleanly, an employee of the park should take care of this. There are signs in the washroom saying that the employees are not maids so be clean and respectful, yet I'm not cleaning a stranger's poo. Please clean and inspect outhouse toilets at least daily and fix the outhouse door springs that do not allow certain doors to stay fully closed. The flush toilets were adequate, if a little tired. The showers were the worst. We left a day early as both my husband and I couldn't stand the thought of taking one more shower here. We expected a rustic shower, not an unhygienic urinal stall. The flooring is wood, a porous material. Water and urine have obviously been absorbed here. Not only that, there was a carpet sample on the floor. I don't want to think about what horrors that held. Thankfully we had flipflops for the shower. It smelled like we were directly in a toilet. The walls were stained yellow and I do not think they have ever been cleaned. Because of the layout, showerers were able to listen to the toilet-goers relieve themselves. Everyone seemed to use only one shower as the light didn't work and a dock/fishing spider had taken up residence in the other shower. Adding to the final mix was the fact that since these were open-air (not fully enclosed) mosquitoes and flies were able to accompany your shower. These need to be completely torn down and reconfigured. These are not rustic, these are not eco, these are unhygienic cesspools. I am not exaggerating, please see the pictures, which cannot reproduce the stench.
In summary, this place is NOT at all at a reasonable standard. I have camped in tons of places, private, provincial, and backcountry, never in my life have I encountered this. Camping and nature is dirty, it should not be disgusting and unhygienic. I am warning you, do not stay here.
