点评：We thought we were visiting a place that rescues elephants. That’s exactly how they sell it. But this is not a sanctuary; it’s tourist entertainment.
Many of these elephants spent decades giving rides under terrible conditions. They absolutely needed to be taken out of that industry… but here they simply enter a different version of the same thing.
They only “rescue” female elephants because females are easier to train for the tourist show. After a short hour of “fun,” they’re tied up again. They must obey their mahout, come close to tourists, and allow hugs and photos: all trained behavior.
This is not what rescued elephants need.
Elephants are intelligent herd animals who belong with their families, free to roam; not performing for visitors.
We left with a very heavy feeling. I wish someone had told us the truth before we went.
Please don’t make the same mistake.
