点评:My husband did a park run here, then we went to the large and very well run cafe outside the gardens. They coped with a large volume of orders with rare efficiency. The gardens were lovely, even though the rhododendrons were past their best. Some subtropical plants, huge pines and views of the estuary. Lots of rabbits and bird song. The house is presented in an interesting way. The last owner was Ida Copeland an early woman MP whose husband owned Spode china company. There has a collection of china painted with flowers from the garden. One of the volunteers explained why the upstairs is not opened yet for safety reasons and he pointed out the drawings of some of the rooms. Further to some other reviews, we were very pleased that dogs were not allowed in the gardens and cafe and have to be kept on short leads, we could enjoy the visit without dogs getting under foot or menacing children and people enjoying picnics. The Trust has to balance the needs of preserving the property and the needs of all users and rightly puts human beings and the property in their care first.
