点评:The "Zamek Królewski w Warszawie" (Royal Castle in Warsaw) dates back to the 14th century, and it was designated in the early 1600s to replace Wawel Castle in Kraków as the seat of the king. It was redesigned / remodeled several times along the centuries, until it was completely destroyed during WW II.
After the end of the war, works started on rescuing the surviving fragments of the castle's walls, foundations, cellars, fire-blackened walls of the Royal Library building from further destruction.
In 1949 the Polish Parliament passed a bill to rebuild the castle, but works were only started in 1971.
What you see today is the modern reconstruction of the Palace, and it now serves as a museum. You can visit the state rooms, which house several works of art that were returned to the castle after it was rebuilt.
The state rooms and the artworks displayed are very interesting, but the entrance to the castle is quite expensive (regular rate 60.00 PLN, reduced rate 45.00 PLN, plus additional 10.00 PLN for the audioguide, as of June 2025). Personnel in the various rooms were often rude during my visit, and it looks like visitors just annoy them.
