点评:Thingvellir is Iceland's first National Park established in 1930 and the sight of the historically important Althing general assembly which was first held in the year 930 upon the grounds at Thingvellir. Its a location of natural beauty and a tremendous amount of cultural and heritage importance in Iceland. Thingvellir has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004 and is one of the most popular stops visitors make on the famous Golden Circle sightseeing route east of Reykjavik.
We spent a couple hours at the Thingvellir National Park, walking through the Almannagja Gorge and grounds in the stream lined valley near the waterfall called Oxarar and the historic Thingvellir Church. Surprised to see how many hiking and walking trails there were at Thingvellir. Could have easily spend half a day or more taking in walks throughout the national park. There are helpful information panels placed around the main sightseeing spots within the park. The main Visitor Centre is also very helpful in this regard. We found the maps and diagrams of the park here quite useful, helping us focus on where to go to see the important sights.
