More than a university - include it on your to visit list of Krakow! - March 2024
Muzeum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego Collegium Maius的点评
点评:The Collegium Maius ( or "Great College") if you prefer is home to the Jagiellonian University Museum.
The museum itself we did not have time to visit - but we've entered the courtyard and were following one of the main attractions here - the musical clock with its procession of historical figures ( somehow similar to the one in Prague ) ... the first clock was working here in the middle 1400's - the current one is more modern - since 2000 and it plays music during the procession of figures.
Now why is also this Collegium famous? well in the late 1400 Nicolaus Copernicus was a student here ( later became a professor) and here is the place where he began his work on the theory kwon as "De revolutionibus orbium coelestium" (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres) - published is 1543 the year of his death ... A life's work published at the very end.
Also there are several rooms that can be visited - pity we did not have the time to do it - but for sure we will return and take a guided tour.
So here it is - I hope these are enough reasons to visit this place when you are in Krakow.
