A tourist trap, not a temple experience
Shaolin Temple Yunnan In Xingtai的点评
点评:I spent a month there last year. From the moment I arrived, I knew something was wrong. They call themselves a “temple”, but it’s nothing of the sort — more like a tourist trap pretending to be spiritual. Loud, crowded, and full of people taking photos of students like it’s a zoo.
The manager promised real Shaolin monks and unique training. None of that turned out to be true. The master gave long ego-filled lectures instead of teaching, shamed students in front of everyone, and couldn't even keep up physically himself. Anyone struggling with the intense and chaotic schedule was simply called lazy.
The food? Cheap and nearly useless nutritionally. The attitude? Friendly until you pay — then cold and dismissive. And of course, no refunds.
I stayed because I couldn’t afford to lose the money. But later, when I trained at the real Shaolin Temple in Henan (April this year), I realized everything I had learned had to be corrected. I had wasted time and energy learning things the wrong way.
This place has zero connection to Shaolin. The people running it are not monks.
I don't usually write reviews like this. But I feel responsible to warn others: don’t fall for the marketing. This is not what it claims to be.
