Take the tour, otherwise it's just a small collection of buildings
Mordecai Historic Park的点评
点评:Between average and good. Good if you spend time in the small museum beforehand getting acquainted with history of the place - there are also interesting WPA interviews with former slaves (transcript - in vernacular - available). The families pose interesting moral questions, or moral blindness, depending. Jews who kept slaves and thought that was just fine - and then expressed surprise that the house servants chose to leave. Good lord. The house is also interesting: great wealth back in the day, but somewhat unimpressive for so much land, so many slaves. Apparently there were other houses nearby. Ended up with a private tour since I was the only one that day/time, though I would say this particular guide was more knowledgeable about the family twists and turns than perhaps the house or its contents. Good or bad, depending on where your interests lie. The assorted additional buildings were mostly not available (or perhaps never are) and are more for discussion purpose than anything else - though you do get to see the lower level (one room) of the house where Andrew Johnson was raised as a child.
