Postojna Cave的点评
点评：We visited here on a Thursday morning and was early bird, have to wait for the opening at 9:45am onwards. Already a long queue starts.
Touted as Slovenia #1 visiting spot we were full of excitement from the start. Each guide leads about 40+ visitors and speaks good English. All started with the electric train ride of about 15 mins to the interior. We were told be careful not to extend or protrude excessively during the ride.
It was cool, about 7 deg with 95% humidity, so a warm jacket and decent-comfortable shoes are advised.
The Postojna Cave system was explained as a series of caverns and underground passages some 24km long and more than 2 million years old. It was hollowed out by the Pivka River as it flows through the passage of time while entering a subterranean tunnel. The helpful Guide shared that Visitors get to see a 5km stretch of the cave over the 1.5+ hr session. This actually included the earlier cool electric train ride.
In between the walk the guide stops to give information while also waiting for everyone to stay together. Overall quite a fair bit of walking with NO toilet stops. Some up gradients while others are steepish down slopes. The floor has been reinforced to prevent easy falls and there are handrails all along. Some memorable spots include the Velika Gora cavern, the captivating Russian Bridge (built by prisoners of war in 1916) . Not to forget the largest which is big diamond-shaped cone, and of stalactites and stalagmites and dropping water from the top…
It took a good 2 hours to complete the tour and exit via the returning electric train. Feels good to be with sunny sun again. Its toilet breaks and café, usual gift s, ops again!
