点评:This church is on the island in the middle of Lake Bled. You need to catch a boat out to the island which can be via a self rowed boat, a pletna boat, which is rowed for you, or a motorised launch. We took the latter from the foreshore in Bled and the journey took 10 minutes.
There is evidence of there being settlements on Bled Island dating back to the early Middle Ages. The first brick church was built in the middle of the 12th century. This church was rebuilt in the 15th century in a Gothic style however was damaged by an earthquake in the early 16th century. It was subsequently renovated in a Baroque style and restored in the 17th century after being damaged by a second earthquake. The church that now stands dates from this time.
The bell tower dates from the 15th century but has also substantially been rebuilt as a result of being damaged by the earthquakes and a lightening strike. The current tower is 52 metres high (91 steps to the top) has three bells and an intricate clock which you can examine the workings of once you get to the top.
Entry to the church, tower, museum is via a ticket which cost EUR10-50 each for seniors.
Internally the church has a single nave and is decorated by the remains of 15th century Gothic frescoes, a beautiful gilded altar from the 18th century and some lovely Baroque furnishings.
