Great spot for hiking.
Norris Dam State Park的点评
点评：We had a 4 day stay in the historic cabins in the east side if the park. This park is divided into east and west sections with the TVA Norris dam and reservoir dividing the 2 parts. The main head quarters, laundry facility, marina and modern cabins are in the west while the historic CCC cabins, tea house are in the east. Both sides have a campground and hiking trails.
We chose cabin 8 because it is a bit more seperated from the other cabins which sit on a small one way loop road. However cabin 8 does sit immediately adjacent to a major trailhead parking lot. Convenient to go hiking but you will some company during the day.
The cabin was clean and rustic with a stone fireplace, queen bed (linens provided), small bathroom with shower and a small kitchen with cooking utensils provided. The electric stove burners didnt work until I reconnected them. Minor issue. The bed was comfy and the AC worked well during our stay when it was in the 90s.
The trails are wonderful with a good variety of types and difficulty levels. BUT...they are in need of some upkeep. The trailhead kiosks have outdated maps which do not agree with the maps given out at the headquarters, several trails are not listed. Trail signage and blazes are frequently missing. We came across several trails that were not on either map and we had no idea where they led. The maps from the park HQ
were very small print so old folks like me need your reading glasses.
The dam was very interesting and you can walk or drive over it for some views of the lake and marina. There is a small TVA visitor center at the dam with some short info movies and exhibits, also bathrooms. There are 2 overlook points just off the hiway on either side of the dam. There is also the 2 mile loop Birdsong trail just below the dam with views of the Clinch river.
The town of Rocky Top is about 5 miles from the park and has most of the services and stores you may need. Grumpabears bbq on main street is very good casual place.
